KARACHI, SINDH - At least six people have died, and several others
are missing due to the deadly fire at the Gul Plaza commercial center in
Karachi.
A three-story building caught fire at about 10:15 p.m. on
Saturday, destroying over 1,000 shops before collapsing and burning to ashes
within hours.
A firefighter, Furqan Shoukat, who diligently dedicated himself to
extinguishing the blaze, heroically sacrificed his life in the line of duty, as
reported by rescue personnel.
Over 115 firefighters and 2 dozen fire brigades have been relentlessly
tackling the massive fire for more than 20 hours, as reported by Sindh
government authorities.
As reported by local media, over 50 workers and customers went
missing, and approximately 24 injured persons were sent to the hospital shortly
after being treated.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Syed Sain Nasir Hussain Shah, and Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, have expressed their condolences to the bereaved family and pledged support to the affected victims and traders during this difficult time.
