Strong Earthquake Kills Dozens In Indonesia

August, 16 - (The Global News Desk 115) – BNPB reported in its fresh statement that at least 47 people were killed after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake and several strong jolts rattled eastern Indonesia yesterday. Rescue teams faced difficulties reaching Nagekeo, the area nearest to the epicenter, due to landslides and earthquake devastation that cracked roads, destroyed communication systems, and damaged houses, officials said. A person living in Talibura village said, "The quake was really horrifying, and the shock was so solid." "There were more than a dozen of our family in the house, and we all left the residence very quickly to save lives." Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency reported the first earthquake felt at 4:59 AM local time on Saturday, with a depth of 9 miles in the Flores area. Indonesia: Wedding Truck Crash Kills Over A Dozen

July 13 - (The Global News Desk 115) — Multiple vehicles collided with a pickup truck on a busy highway in Indonesia, transporting wedding attendees.  A collision occurred on the key island of Java, killing 13 people and wounding five others, authorities reported on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon on the northern coastal highway near the village of Kiajaran Kulonm, while wedding attendees were heading back from a wedding in the adjacent village of Parean. Authorities said the victims were in an open-air truck that slowed and stalled near a median lane opening to make a U-turn on the highway.  A wing-box truck moving in the same direction hit the truck from behind. The intense collision sent more than 12 people flying from the pickup truck onto the roadway, police said in a preliminary statement. No other information regarding the deceased was immediately released by the authorities. Dead bodies were taken to a hospital for identification.  

Indonesia: plane crash kills all 11 onboard

JAKARTA,  Indonesia -   A missing plane is now believed to have crashed in Indonesia, with all 11 people on board feared dead. Yesterday, the Indonesia Air Transport turboprop plane took off from Yogyakarta for a two-hour flight to Makassar, South Sulawesi.  However, about 12 miles from the airport, air traffic control lost contact with the aircraft. A video revealed wreckage on a hillside, most likely the wreckage of the turboprop jet.  Rescue crews have been dispatched to look for survivors. Three passengers and eight staff members were on board the airplane.
