Chopper Crash: 4 Killed In Brazil

August, 09 - (The Global News Desk 115) -  . A helicopter meant for tourists, packed with a pilot and three Colombian women, plummeted in a forest today. . A helicopter crashed in a forest in Rio de Janeiro at around 11: 11 A.M local time.  Today, Brazilian authorities announced that 3 of the victims were women from Colombia, all part of the same family. Early reports suggest that one of the tourists was taking pictures over Tijuca National Park when the helicopter crashed into a steep, heavily wooded area. This made it very difficult for firefighters and other rescue teams to reach the location and rescue victims.  Firefighters and other rescue teams leaped into action as soon as they received a phone call at 11:30 A.M Saturday.  The helicopter blew up right after hitting the ground, causing a fire that was put out. At the site, rescue teams found that all four tourists' corpses were burned completely.     . 

Maduro's Vice President Appointed as Interim President

The Vice President of Venezuela has been granted temporary presidential responsibilities by a Venezuelan constitutional authority. The Supreme Constitutional Court of Venezuela has ordered Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to temporarily assume the presidency, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP). Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs recognizes Rodríguez as Venezuela's transitional president, replacing Nicolás Maduro, who is currently jailed in the US. To form a united position on the US attacks on Venezuela, Latin American and Caribbean nations will hold a special summit, says the Brazilian Foreign Ministry.

Brazil: 38 Killed As Speeding Bus Rammed Into Truck

A passenger bus and a truck collided early Saturday on a highway in Minas Gerais, a state in southern Brazil, killing 38 people, according to officials. At least forty-five people were on a speeding bus when it rammed into the truck and caught fire, according to witnesses who spoke to local police.  38 people on the bus, including the driver, Witnesses claimed the bus driver lost control and crashed into a truck after getting tyre burst.  According to certain people, the bus tire exploded after a piece of stone struck it. The bus reportedly hit a car as well carrying 3 passengers, however, all three were unhurt. while the driver of the truck fled the scene, according to the local police officer. Authorities said that all of the victims had been evacuated from the site and conveyed to the hospital; an investigation would decide the cause of the accident. 

Brazil: Road Mishap In Alagoas State Claims 23 Lives

BRAZIL , Brasília   — Local officials in Brazil informed the mainstream media that a bus crashed into a ravine in Brazil's state of Alagoas on Sunday, killing 23 Passengers.  Rescue members confirmed that 22 people  were  pronounced   dead shortly  after the incident, and one passenger died after being taken to the hospital, according to the Alagoas state government.  With 40 passengers on board, the bus plunged into the gorge near Uniao dos Palmares. State Governor Paulo Dantas announced three days of mourning for "a terrible incident."  Brazil's President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, said the government is watching the situation and will support local leaders in rescuing and caring for the victims.
