Over 2 Dozen Killed When Militiamen Vehicle Came Under Gunmen Attack In Ethiopia

According to local officials, gunmen from Ethiopia's Amhara region ambushed a militia vehicle in the Oromiya region on Thursday, killing 26 people and injuring 15.

Ethiopia has struggled in recent years to eradicate violence in ethnically diverse areas.

Ethiopia's largest ethnic group is the Oromo, and its second is the Amhara, with frequent border attacks on both sides, mostly over the estate.

According to the head of the eastern district of Sheva, over 100 militants drove through the town of Korek in Oromia, about 170 km southeast of Addis Ababa.

An official said that the assailants landed in Amhara in seven vehicles from a nearby area. "We're still burying people." "This is the first time we've seen such a well-planned attack in our area," he said.

According to Ababu, the dead included two federal police officers and one driver.

Following an attack, the assailants contacted Oromo militia members with a phone belonging to one of the victims, claiming to be members of the Fano volunteer Amhara militia.
