ISLAMABAD,
Pakistan — At least 7 insurgents were reportedly killed in the latest
crackdown against Terrorists, carried out by Pakistani special forces on
Monday, in the tribal region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, formerly known
as North-West Frontier Province or Sarhad province. The
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) told the Pakistani media, "7
terrorists were killed, and 4 military personals including a
lieutenant 26-year-old Agha Muqadas Ali Khan martyred in the anti-terrorism operation, executed near Datta Khel town of North
Waziristan district." North and south Waziristan once deemed as the
terrorist hub and no go area in Pakistan. Pakistan had been the target of many
terrorist organizations for a decade, different militant groups appeared during
America’s War with Afghanistan. The Waziristan agency being near to the Afghan
border had to face several attacks from different militant groups. The
different militant groups that are fighting against the Pakistan armed forces
are Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU),
Jundallah, al-Qaeda, Haqqani network, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement
(ETIM), and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.). In 2009, anti-terrorism Operation Rah-e-Nijat
was launched in South Waziristan under the dynamic leadership of General Ashfaq
Parvez Kayani and Mr: Asif Ali Zardari. Nipping the terrorism in bud and
clearing the whole South Waziristan from the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and the
Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU)were the main objectives of the operation.
The anti-terrorism operation Rah-e-Nijat was continued for 5 months,3
weeks and 2 days. The ingenious military operation was
executed brilliantly which produced significant results. On December
12,2009 Pakistani military announced the liberation of the entire region
of Waziristan. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations
(ISPR), 594 Taliban militants were killed,100 other captured while 80
Pakistani soldiers were martyred and about 250 were wounded in the Rah-e-Nijat
operation. On June 14, 2018, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) supreme
leader Mullah Fazlullah was killed in the US drone strike in Kunar,
Afghanistan. He was a resident of Swat Valley. Sheharyar Mehsud
and Mullah Fazlullah's Pakistani Taliban group brutally massacred
over 150 school children and injured a hundred others in Army Public School in
the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar on 16 December 2014. The
assailants, all of whom were foreign nationals, included one Chechen, three
Arabs and two Afghans were killed in a shoot-out with the Pakistani military.
