A spokesperson for the conflict-affected and war embattled country confirmed on Saturday that Taliban militants dragged out government forces from Kohistan district of Badakhshan province. Taliban occupation of the Kohistan district took place on Thursday morning when Afghan forces failed to stop the tsunami of militants attacks aimed at shaking out and overpower the Afghan National Security Forces and impose Taliban's writ in the neck of the woods. At least 10 Afghan security personnel were killed when they were trying to break the siege of the Kohistan district laid by the Taliban. Kohistan being the first district to collapse into Taliban hands since the Doha peace deal was signed between the US and Taliban on 29th, February 2020. Apart from Kohistan, Wardoj and Baharak districts in Badakhshan province are under Taliban control. Realizing the vulnerability to the insurgency, President Ashraf Ghani's officials expressed profound concern about US-NATO forces' withdrawal from Afghanistan likely to be kicked off in the near future.
