Asif Ali Zardari, the president of Pakistan, undertook an
official visit to Kyrgyzstan on July 6, according to the country's official
media.
The foreign office said that Zardari would attend a cultural gathering while in the country and would also meet President Sadyr Japarov to discuss potential cooperation.
During the visit, the leaders of Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan
will discuss current issues on the bilateral agenda and prospects for further
strengthening cooperation, the press statement said.
President Sadyr Japarov received Zardari at Issyk-Kul
International Airport, where a formal reception with an honor guard was
held.
Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan have sustained diplomatic ties since the
early 90's, gradually broadening their collaboration through bilateral channels
and regional organizations, including the United Nations and the Shanghai
Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
Both states, together with Tajikistan and Afghanistan, have been
working on the $1.2 billion Central Asia-South Asia Electricity Transmission
and Trade Project (CASA-1000).
A Tajik minister stated that it is projected to be operating by
January 2027.
The Foreign Office highlighted that Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan
share "warm and fraternal relations, rooted in a common history, faith,
culture, and mutual aspirations for peace, connectivity, and prosperity in
Central and South Asia."
