Members of the outlawed Jamaat-ul-Ahrar gang attacked the main
entrance of a Rangers camp in Karachi's Gulistan-e-Jauhar neighborhood late
Saturday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The assailants used an explosive to launch their attack
before trying to break into the premises.
As a result of the gunfire, three militants were killed, and
another was captured with injuries, while the Rangers team effectively
confronted the intruders. The military indicates that the detained suspect is
an Afghan national.
Stressing that the sacrifice of the deceased troops would not be
in vain, the Pakistani military has said that it will take swift action against
those responsible for the attack.
The attack on a Rangers base in Karachi has been strongly
condemned by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shabaz Sharif, who
have declared that terrorist organizations with outside assistance will
eventually fail.
Pakistan has frequently claimed that terrorist organizations
operating from Afghan territory, including the TTP.
Kabul denied the claims made by Pakistan, emphasizing that
Islamabad needs to adopt harsh measures to ensure the safety of its people.
