An ill-fated military aircraft transporting 121 soldiers met with an accident shortly after its departure on Monday in southwestern Colombia, resulting in approximately 66 fatalities and leaving several others injured.

As per a senior official, a 'tragic accident' occurred in Puerto Leguizamo, a remote municipality in the Amazonian province of Putumayo, which is adjacent to the neighboring South American countries of Peru and Ecuador.

According to the Air Force, the C-130 Hercules was carrying 121 people, including 110 soldiers and 11 crew members.

Furthermore, the air force officials mentioned that two planes, containing 74 beds, were sent to the area to return the injured to hospitals in the capital, Bogota, and other regions.
