DAMASUS, Syria — Approximately 78 Turkish backed fighters were killed, and more than a hundred wounded after their camp targeted and completely obliterated by the Russian airstrike in Jabal al-Dweila region of Harem city, northwest of Idlib province, Uk based war monitor reported on Monday. The death toll of Turkish-backed fighters likely to increase as a large proportion of wounded insurgents was in critical condition, and several others were trapped in the rubble of the attacked building. The targeted militants' group Faylaq al-Sham or the Sham Legion was formed in Syria in March 2014, when war between rebels and the Syrian government was in full swing. In September 2018, Putin and Erdogan had agreed to turn Idlib into a de-escalation zone. The area was planned to act as a buffer zone between the two sides, with clear lines of control, but fighting has never stopped in the particular area, and violation of the ceasefire has become the order of the day. All threatening parties failed to arrive at a limited ceasefire agreement that was to have been strictly enforced during Mr. Erdogan's visit to Russia, on 06 March 2020. When all is said and done, none of the bullying parties are interested in settling the protracted conflict, therefore, the ceasefire has never materialized, despite considerable support from neighboring countries.
