Crash Killed all Six People on Board
The USA, Virginia - Six people were killed in a helicopter crash in West Virginia, on Wednesday night, authorities said.
According to the Civil Aviation Service, the helicopter crashed at around 5pm in Logan County in southwest West Virginia.
The helicopter known as the Huey crashed on 17 State Road, near Mount Blair, according to Logan County emergency management associate director Sonia Porter.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the helicopter exploded and extinguished the fire, officials said.
According to Ray Bryant, chief of operations for local emergency services, the helicopter was on fire when the crew arrived and firefighters were putting out the fire.
Authorities are still investigating what caused the crash, but they know the weather was fine at the time.
When Bobby Childs, who lives about a mile from the crash site, observed the helicopter lose control, he contacted 911 and hurried to the scene, according to what he told WSAZ.
When he arrived, he noticed that at least one person had boarded the chopper, which had since caught fire.
He claimed to WSAZ, "I ran as fast as I could, got under the guardrail, and climbed into the chopper."
But this person can't escape the
fire since it is so hot and powerful. The crash killed all six helicopter
passengers.
