Russia on Tuesday promised to reduce military operations around Kyiv and northern Ukraine.
Prior to the talks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that his country was ready to declare neutrality, as Moscow has demanded, and was willing to compromise on the contested eastern region of Donbas.
Ukrainian negotiating team said that under their proposals, Kyiv would agree not to join alliances or host foreign soldiers. However, it seeks security guarantees from its allies.
"A decision was made to sharply reduce military activity in the Kyiv and Chernihiv directions by a large margin in order to increase trust and understanding and build the right conditions for further negotiations and achieving the ultimate objectives of agreeing and signing an agreement," Russian Deputy Defence Minister Alexander Fomin told Reuters.
