Kabul Afghanistan — As many as 17 Afghan police officers were killed and
three more wounded when insurgents went on a deadly shooting rampage in Ali
Abad district of Kunduz province of Afghanistan. The action began
when Taliban insurgents stormed the security outpost on Monday night. In the heavy
shootout, Afghan security forces sustained large casualties. Afghan government
officials have confirmed the death toll of the police officers. Government
officials more added that several insurgents were also exterminated during the
gunbattle between Taliban and Afghan security forces in Aarz Begi village of
the Ali Abad district, but they failed to provide an exact figure of jihadists' casualties. Kunduz is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the northern part of the country next to Tajikistan. The population of the province is around 953,800.
