Iraqi Army Liberates Hawija Town From Islamic State

BAGHDAD , Iraq -- The Iraqi military media cell has announced the liberation of Hawija Town from the Islamic State militants . Statement  said that Hawija town and its neighborhood recaptured on Thursday , and now ISIS has been restricted to the areas near the western border with Syria , as it has lost  all its bastions in central Hawija . Iraqi military spokesman Yarallah said while breifing to media that joint troops seized the town after managing to took back 98 villages and leaving 196 militants dead . Hawija district , located in the oil rich province of Kirkuk . The military operation for the liberation of Hawija district was announced by the Iraqi P.M Haider Jawad Kadhim Al-Abadi on 21 September 2017 , within short period of time Iraqi military in collaboration with paramilitary forces and anti ISIS international coalition aviation has secured huge success against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) . On September 1 , 2017 , Tal Afar was liberated from the  ISIS , it is a city and district in the Nineveh province of northwestern Iraq, 63 km west of Mosul . On 9th of  July , 2017 , the liberation  of Mosul was announced by the  Iraqi P.M Haider Jawad Kadhim Al-Abadi . Mosul is a an strategic city in northern Iraq. Located some 400 km north of Baghdad, Mosul situated on the west bank of the Tigris river , opposite the ancient Assyrian city of Nineveh on the east bank .
